Our Spiritual Dedication

In 2007 Assaad Nakad launched a unique project which aim is to design and construct a Chapel dedicated to St. Rita known as the Patron of Impossible Cases, on a panoramic terrain adjacent to our Lady-Marie church in Zahlé. The Chapel inauguration took place on December 23rd 2007, and soon became a religious, touristic and distinct landmark in Zahlé.
In February 2009, the Chapel was granted second place in the UK Architects Journal awards for Small Projects out of 24 other projects represented by different international architects.
In its issue, http://www.architectsjournal.co.uk/buildings/aj-small-projects, the UK Architects Journal wrote:
This Chapel overlooks the village of Zahlé in Lebanon and was built
to hold 20 people

Partitions unfold to accommodate up to 200 people during special celebrations.
A 7m cantilevered ceiling defines the chapel space. All walls and floors are covered
with granite, while the main glazing panel is made of laminated glass and features
a sandblasted picture of Saint Rita. Folding doors are made from western red
cedar, while the altar and benches are iroko teak.
The chapel’s false ceiling is made from gypsum board that is painted a dark grey colour.
